Marie Messina

Pottery

Marie has been passionate about all art since being in junior high. Her art teachers at the time were quick to see her talent and she won a scholarship to The Ontario College of Art. Later Marie met and married her husband of over 40 years. Children followed and responsibilities. She all but forgot about her love of art.

Marie stumbled into the world of pottery more than a decade ago! This was no coincidence…this was her calling. She is one of the co-founders of the Stouffville Studio Tour. She has also been a member of the Toronto Potters Organization for a number of years. Marie’s “love of clay” has truly developed into a passion. When she places a piece of nature’s clay on her wheel and watches it spin, she knows she is doing what she is meant to do.

The majority of Marie’s work is in porcelain clay producing functional ware that is wheel thrown. She also creates some hand built pieces as well as Raku, which she absolutely loves because it allows her to express a different side of her artistic flare and work with amazing glazes involving a different process. Whatever her medium all her pieces are in her unique style of work. You will never be disappointed; you will find many new and interesting pieces with her signature glaze as well as other glazes.
