Wendy LavalleEncaustic Paintings
Wendy’s current body of work is a collection of moody and sensual landscapes. Places she’s visited both locally and afar. This traditional subject matter is abstracted by her use of encaustic material and methods…creating a minimalized version of the landscape that is full of textual detail. What is Encaustic painting? It's the process of mixing melted wax with oil pigments, then applying the coloured wax to the support..ie canvas, paper, board. With further heating, scraping, and painting the picture is achieved. The result is many complex layers, textures and surfaces: raised, smooth, translucent, luminous, and opaque. This technique was used in ancient times by Romans and Egyptians...works that are among the best preserved of all times. See www.greenartsgallery.com for more information about Wendy’s work and exhibits. |
