Having grown up in a family that loved the decorative arts (think fabrics from Liberty’s of London, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Florentine leathers & wood boxes …), and was at the same time very Anglophile, it’s not entirely surprising that Deb would be attracted to the designs & theories of the English Arts and Crafts Movement. The idea that the work and the end product should actually mean something to the maker, and not simply be another piece of machine-made, assembly-line “stuff” holds great appeal to not only Deb, but to those who collect her work. The attention to detail, the use of natural, quality materials, the simplicity or naturalness of the designs – all hallmarks of A&C craftsmen, are finding their way into Deb’s work more and more.
